Typical Mini gearboxes
Mini gearboxes come from Getrag and Aisin: the 6-speed manuals GS6-53BG and GS6-53DG (Cooper S R56, Clubman R55, Countryman R60), the 6-speed automatic GA6F21WA (Aisin, R56 to R61), the 7-speed dual-clutch 7DCT300 (Getrag) in F55, F56 and F57 from 2018, and the 8-speed automatic GA8F22AW (Aisin) in the Countryman F60. The code is on the type plate on the housing; watch out for all-wheel-drive versions (ALL4) and the engine variant.
Used, reconditioned or new?
For used Mini gearboxes we state mileage and year where known; every gearbox is tested before dispatch and comes with a 12-month warranty. Reconditioned gearboxes have been professionally overhauled and tested – also 12 months. New gearboxes carry a 24-month warranty. On gearboxes we charge a core deposit of usually €250, refunded when your old gearbox is returned – see Core deposit explained.
How to find the right Mini gearbox
The gearbox code (e.g. GA8HP45Z or GS6-53DZ) is on the type plate on the housing; ZF calls the same gearbox 8HP45. Compare the code with the one in our product title – or send us your VIN and we will check which gearbox fits. For DSG and automatic gearboxes see also DSG gearbox problems.
Frequently asked questions about Mini gearboxes
How much does a Mini replacement gearbox cost?
The price is shown on each gearbox and depends on type, mileage and condition. A core deposit (usually €250) is added and refunded once we receive your old gearbox.
Will the gearbox fit my car?
If the gearbox code or part number matches, yes – the code defines ratios, control unit and connections. If in doubt, send us your VIN and we will check which Mini gearbox fits.
Does an automatic or DSG gearbox need to be coded?
Yes. After fitting a dual-clutch or automatic gearbox the workshop has to adapt the control unit to the vehicle (adaptation / basic setting). Allow for this when planning the swap.
What warranty do Mini gearboxes come with?
12 months on used and reconditioned gearboxes, 24 months on new ones – no mileage limit, provided the gearbox is fitted professionally by a workshop. Shipped securely packed by freight carrier, or collected in Nortmoor by arrangement.
