Typical Renault engines
Renault engines carry a code of letter, number and letter plus a three-digit variant: K9K stands for the 1.5 dCi, R9M for the 1.6 dCi, M9R for the 2.0 dCi (Trafic, Espace, Koleos), M9T for the 2.3 dCi in the Master. Among the petrol engines the small turbos now dominate: H4D (1.0 SCe and TCe), H5H (1.3 TCe) and the older H5F (1.2 TCe). The variant after the code – e.g. H4D 480 or M9R 714 – distinguishes power levels, emissions standard and ancillaries and should match your vehicle. Many of these engines are fitted identically in Dacia, Nissan and Mercedes models (Citan, Vito 1.6 CDI). Guide: Renault H4D engine.
Used, reconditioned or new?
For used Renault engines we state mileage and year where known; every engine is tested before dispatch and comes with a 12-month warranty. Reconditioned engines have been professionally overhauled and tested – also 12 months. New engines with 0 km carry a 24-month warranty. On every engine we charge a core deposit of usually €500, refunded when your old engine is returned. Which option makes sense for you is explained in Used or remanufactured engine?; on the deposit: Core deposit explained.
How to find the right Renault engine
The engine code (e.g. K9K 636 or H4D 480) is on a sticker on the block and on the vehicle type plate; the three-digit variant after it matters. Compare the code with the one in our product title – or send us your VIN and we will check which engine fits. Full details in our guide Finding your engine code.
Frequently asked questions about Renault replacement engines
How much does a Renault replacement engine cost?
The price is shown on each engine and depends on engine family, mileage and condition. A core deposit (usually €500) is added and refunded once we receive your old engine. Shipping on a pallet by freight carrier, or collection in Nortmoor by arrangement.
Will the engine fit my car?
If the engine code matches, yes. Ancillaries such as manifolds or brackets can differ between models and are usually transferred from the old engine. If in doubt, send us your VIN and we will check which Renault engine fits.
What warranty do Renault engines come with?
12 months on used and reconditioned engines, 24 months on new engines – with no mileage limit. The engine must be fitted professionally by a workshop. Details on our warranty page.
How do delivery and core return work?
Engines are shipped securely packed on a pallet by freight carrier; collection in Nortmoor (Germany) is possible by arrangement. After the swap you return the old engine and we refund the deposit. Our checklist: Engine replacement checklist.
